Hyper-Ballasting
Hyper-ballasting (or hyper-buoyancy, depending on your perspective) is the FBS’s ability to either take on 30,000 lbs. of water (or ballast) or to purge its ballast, thereby creating 30,000 lbs. of lift (or buoyancy). Unlike other submarines where their total positive buoyancy is only a fraction of the cabins total displacement (making them only minimally buoyant, even when on the surface), the FBS’s positive buoyancy (or lift capability) is over 200% of its cabins displacement. And for redundancy, its separated across eight different compartments (ballast and dive tanks). As a result, the FBS has capability and safety advantages over its nearest dry cabin competitors.
